Advertising. Direct Mail. Cold Calls...Great Ways to Grow a Business

How to Grow a Business

I'm going to break free from the regular posts featuring growth strategies for one day to get something off my chest.

It's pretty common to hear some loud mouth marketing presenters talk about how all businesses should immediately STOP cold calling, STOP advertising, STOP direct mail and STOP all traditional methods of marketing. While sharing this information they are sure to make everyone using these tactics feel guilty about it by saying how dumb you are if you use them still.

I have a huge problem with this.

Simply removing these traditional methods from your business and replacing them with new approaches like social media and content marketing is wreckless.

While I respect the opinions of these individuals and understand that they are polarizing figures, which is great for their brand, I don't think they are as invested in understanding how a company grows. Instead they are more interested in sharing the contents of their gospel and building a community that believes in the same thing.

In my opinion, direct mail, cold calling, advertising and other traditional methods actually are quite awful because they are often inefficient but if that’s what is driving your business you don’t get rid of it, as growth strategists we should start systematically introducing new models to complement it or optimize them to make them better not remove them!

Most companies only have 2 or 3 growth strategies they are using to drive their business. This blog post provided one. To build a strong business you should have at least four in each of the four critical areas of growth.

Join a group of entrepreneurs, executives and marketing professionals and receive a monthly release that outlines a creative growth strategy that an SMB has used to generate a new level of growth in their company. The Growth Network: Genesis is about learning what others have done to achieve a level of success so that you may be able to do the same in your business.
